Food Safety Program at KU
Food Safety Audits
Trained staff members evaluate the performance of food service operations by conducting monthly audits with follow-up inspections if required. Audit results are reviewed with the food establishment’s management, and guidance is provided to facilitate any necessary corrections.
Food Safety Training
KU Memorial Union provides ServSafe, Foodhandler and Food Allergy classes and proctored exam services to KU Memorial dining staff. ServSafe is a nationally recognized Food Protection Manager certification program.
Food Related Complaint Investigations
Complaints related to food service operations or suspected food-borne illness on campus are investigated by the Assistant Directors and campus Registered Dietitian, who will work with the responsible parties to assist them with problem resolution.
Food Recall Notifications
Vendors are vetted for Food Safety protocol that monitors Federal and State government information networks for food recalls. KU Memorial Union has point personnel in place to communicate any food recall to each dining location.
