KYOUZONE

KU Dining proudly provides a safe dining experience for them through the KYouZone at Mrs. E’s (Lewis Hall). The KYouZone offers food free from the top 9 allergens with separate storage and cooking spaces to minimize cross-contact risk.

How it works:

  • The KYouZone acts as an order ahead station where students use Grubhub to select from the variety of entrees and sides.
  • Once students order ahead, a pickup time will be displayed
  • Students with allergies still can utilize other options offered in the dining hall and enjoy their meal with their peers.

How to access it:

  • To provide the highest quality and safest experience for student with allergy the KYouZone will act as a hidden menu available to students who have registered through the KU Dining Dietitian
  • Students can register at any time and if they are unable to access the menu, they can seek assistance from a manager or supervisor

Resources and Other Important Information:

At KU Dining, we ensure the top 9 allergens are labeled and identified. In addition to, wheat, milk, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, fish, shellfish, and egg, we also highlight items with sesame, soy, gluten, garlic, alcohol, and beef. Students can find plant-based items by looking for vegan or vegetarian icons. The deep-fried icon serves as an additional characteristic to acknowledge menu items that are prepared in a shared fryer. For example, if a product is labeled gluten-free and deep-fried, cross-contact with gluten will occur in the fryer. Please be aware that our pizza options are also produced in a shared oven where gluten, wheat, and other allergens are present.

KU Dining procedure is to contact 911 immediately and request medical assistance. Following an incident, the dining center manager will inform the Director and Assistant Director of Dining as well as the Director of Housing. When the timing is appropriate, the dining center manager or KU Dining registered dietitian will follow up with that student to check on their situation and well-being.

KU Dining is committed to providing an allergy-friendly dining experience. However, the ingredients and nutritional content of food items served in the campus dining locations may vary. In addition, manufacturers may change their product formulation or consistency of ingredients without our knowledge, and product availability may fluctuate. While we make every effort to identify ingredients, we cannot assure against these contingencies. It is ultimately YOUR responsibility to determine whether to question ingredients or eat selected foods. KU Dining cannot guarantee the safety of students with life-threatening allergies.

Have a question about how to get started?

Follow the steps listed at the top of this page. We are ready to help you!

If I have dietary concerns, where should I live?

We are able to provide allergy-friendly options at all locations. To gain a better understanding of the options available at each location, contact our dietitian. We encourage students with dietary allergies and food accommodations to live in the Daisy Hill Neighborhood (Templin, Lewis, Oswald, Self, and Ellsworth Halls). This will allow you a variety of options that meet your dietary needs. Daisy Hill is equipped with the KYouZone which is our allergy-friendly and gluten-friendly station located inside Mrs. E’s. Menu items are ordered ahead of time using the GrubHub app.

How do I include my food allergy on the GrubHub app?

Each location has a “Gluten-free” section within the GrubHub app. If you have another allergy, please identify this in the order instructions as you are completing your order in the app.

Do you post ingredient and Nutrition information?

Yes, you can find ingredient and nutrition information on the NetNutrition website. The site allows you to filter out menu options based on your allergies and dietary preferences.

KU Dining makes every effort to thoroughly train our staff and label food allergies; however, please note that ingredients and nutritional content may change due to recipe substitutions, manufacturing changes, or other outlying factors. Please be aware that food items are prepared in a shared kitchen and do pose a risk of cross-contact.
